Placemaking & Wayfinding

Placemaking

What is placemaking and why is it important to our neighborhood? Placemaking is an effort to increase the connection between people and the place through programs and initiatives to improve the look, feel and safety in the public realm. In Ballston, the BID incorporates placemaking into our strategic plans and annual workplans in the form of beautificaiton projects, wayfinding solutions, public art projects, a public outdoor WiFi system and initiatives that aim to incorporate Ballston’s brand throughout our district. As you walk around the neighborhood you will see our unique banner system along Fairfax Drive that complement the medians along our grand boulevard, gateway signs at our main intersections welcoming you to our neighborhood, and branded wayfinding signs to help you find your way around!

Each year we strive to improve on our placemaking efforts – constantly pushing the envelope with new, exciting initiatives. To see what we are working on now and in the future continue to explore through the links below!
